More on the Autumn OMDs

September 8, 2009 2 comments

Hi Teachers,

On September the first, I posted the dates for mine and Gareth’s annual OMD’s training days. As much as we’ d like to run it as Gareth’s farewell tour (yes he really is leaving) as I hinted at in the 01/09 post the topic of the day would be critical thinking. We now have a better idea of what the talks will be on so this is the ‘blurb’ for each talk.

Critical Thinking – an introduction

Recently the term ‘critical thinking’ has been spoken about more and more during conferences and workshops. But what exactly is it? This session will look at what is meant by the term ‘critical thinking’ and explore how critical thinking theory can be integrated into education. We will also look at why asking a student ‘what do you think?’ is still one of the hardest questions you can ask a teenager.

Thinking critically in exams

In the second session, we’ll look at the role critical thinking plays in examinations. From the new maturita through to the Cambridge main suite, critical thinking and application of knowledge is vital.  We’ll look at which papers require critical thinking and introduce some exercises to help encourage students’ to think.

It’s not black and white – critical thinking and learning grammar

The final session explores the role of critical thinking in teaching language systems (grammar, vocabulary etc). The session looks at different presentation techniques along with examining the different approaches taken to presentations in published materials.

Remember if you want a place it’s no good emailing me, you need to email your regional OUP office in the Czech Republic.

Hezky Vecer 🙂
